Acer rubrum - Red Maple

The Red Maple grows from 20-40 feet tall, and is 1-2 feet in diameter.  The bark is smooth gray when the tree is young and is dark and broken-looking when the tree is older.  The leaves have 3-5 lobes, and there are rough margins between the lobes.  The twigs and buds are reddish, the flowers are red, and the fruits are reddish.  The leaves turn a bright crimson in autumn.

This tree flowers from March to May, and fruits from May to July.  It is found in swamps and moist woods.
