Asplenium platyneuron - Ebony Spleenwort
The leaves of Ebony Spleenwort are light green, and can be from 3 inches to 1 foot tall. This is a semi-evergreen plant. Petioles and rachis are polished red-brown. The blade is once pinnate. The pinnae are oblong to lanceolate, alternate with each other, basal lobes overlapping the rachis, and with irregular round or saw-toothed margins.
This plant is frequent and grows on rocks and ledges, tree bases, or on rocky ground. This is the only spleenwort that regularly grows on the ground.
