White Wood Aster (Aster divaricatus) is a bushy perennial plant that has nearly smooth zig-zag stems. The lower leaves are 2 to 4 inches long, ovate, and sharply serrated with a heart-shaped base on long petioles. The upper leaves are smaller, lanceolate, nearly entire, and have shorter petioles. The flowers are heads of white ray flowers surrounding yellow disk flowers, but the disk sometimes turns reddish purple with age.
The White Wood Aster blooms from July to October. It is found in dry woods. It is mostly a northeastern species but extends south into northern Georgia, northern Alabama, and in eastern Tennessee. Frequent.
