This fern grows from 1.5 to 3 feet tall. The leaves of this fern are deciduous, spreading to erect, and 5" to 14" wide. The petioles are as long as the blade, translucent reddish or light green in color. The leaf blades are ovate, widest at the second pinna pair from the blade base. They are twice or three times pinnate.
