Black-Throated Green Warbler
The Black-Throated Green Warbler (Dendroica virens) is 4.75 to 5 inches long. It has yellow and olive-green upperparts with black streaking on the back, a bright yellow forehead and sides of face, a black chin, throat, and upper breast, white underparts, 2 white wing bars, black streaking on the sides and flanks, and a yellow wash on the flanks.
The female looks similar, but has a yellowish chin and a black throat with whitish feather tips. This is the only North American warbler with bold yellow cheeks.
The song of the Black-Throated Green Warbler varies depending on the context. One song is a zay-zay-zay-zoo-zee which is refered to a pair bonding/nest vicinity song, and a trees-trees-whispering-trees song which is given as a territorial/male interaction song.
This bird is fairly common in a number of habitats in conifer, deciduous, and mixed conifer-deciduous forests.
