Rhus glabra - Smooth Sumac
The Smooth Sumac can be either a shrub or a small tree. It grows from 4 to 15 feet in height and has hairless, smooth twigs and leafstalks. The twigs are somewhat flat-sided. The leaves are large with 11 to 31 toothed leaflets.
The fruits are red, upright, and elongated with short hairs.
It is similar to Staghorn Sumac but the Smooth Sumac has hairless twigs and stems.
It flowers from June to July and is common in dry soil.
