Ailanthus altissima (Tree of Heaven/Ailanthus)
This is a fast-growing tree from 80 to 100 feet tall. The diameter is 1 to 2 feet. The leaves are very large and alternate, each having 11 to 41 leaflets, and are pinnately compound. The leaflets are not toothed except for a pair or gland-tipped teeth near the base. The leaf scars are very large and somewhat triangular with numerous bundle scars.
This is an invasive species from eastern Asia. It was introduced as an ornamental tree. The branch emits a foul odor when the branches are broken off.
This tree flowers from June to July. It is common in dry soil.
