Trillium grandiflorum - large-flowered trillium/great white trillium
This is an erect plant that grows from 8 to 16 inches tall. It grows from a rhizome. There are 3 green leaves that are whorled, sessile, and ovate and from 3 to 4 inches long. The flower is on a 2 to 3 inch stalk where it sits above the leaves. The petals of the flower are white but turn pink as they get older. The stamens are from 0.6 to 1 inch long and have prominent yellow anthers. They bloom from April to May. The flowers are eventually replaced by berry-like capsules.
These trillium are frequent and are found in rich, moist woods in full to partial shade in eastern North America.
